The Smiddy Flat

As you would expect this building was a smithy but probably the replacement to MacQuarie's building when he built the village, then celled Jervisfield after his first wife . It was used until after the end of World War Two and the horses came in through the kitchen window! After several uses (it was home to a 1946 Bedford lorry that lived in the sitting room until 1972) including a shop it was changed to its current use in 1997. The Smiddy gets sun most of the day which adds to its friendly atmosphere.

Accommodation

All the rooms are on the ground floor and there are no steps The sitting/dining area, passage and bedrooms have wood block floors with rugs. There is a studio couch that converts to a double bed in the sitting room. Heating is by night store heaters and a coal effect stove so it is safe, no danger of falling logs or coal, so you can go out for the day in confidence that the fire will not have gone out, there will be no ashes to clear and you do not have to go gathering fuel. TV with video (DVDS can be hired from the local Spar shop). The bedroom has a double bed, built in wardrobe with full length mirrored doors and dressing table with stool. Bathroom with panelled bath, shower and WC. Shaving cupboard with mirror and shaving point. The Kitchen is equipped with electric 4 ringed hob cooker plus oven end grill. There is a dish washer, microwave, fridge freezer and toaster. In addition to crockery and glass etc a good selection of kitchen utensils are available plus a hair dryer, ironing board, electric iron and cleaning equipment. The rent includes all linen, towels, etc and electricity but we reserve the right to make a supplementary charge for heating between OCTOBER and the end of APRIL. There is car parking on site.
